Notwithstanding 100 Victoria
The Region of Waterloo has been litigating to evict the residents from 100 Victoria St N (the encampment) for years! After two losses in court, and clear direction from the two justices, the Region is pursuing an appeal of the most recent decision. Should this fail, there is a good chance that Regional Council will ask Premier Doug Ford to invoke the Notwithstanding Clause (section 33) of the constitution to sidestep the rights-based decisions. In an email, I was asked how I feel about the deployment of CCTV surveillance cameras by Waterloo Regional Police.
