Notwithstanding 100 Victoria
The Region of Waterloo has been litigating to evict the residents from 100 Victoria St N (the encampment) for years! After two losses in court, and clear direction from the two justices, the Region is pursuing an appeal of the most recent decision. Should this fail, there is a good chance that Regional Council will ask Premier Doug Ford to invoke the Notwithstanding Clause (section 33) of the constitution to sidestep the rights-based decisions.
I will resist this. If "their" rights don't matter, then neither do yours.
We must protect the constitution - it is the foundation of our rules-based community. The consequences of giving this up is worth fighting against.
